Top 6 Tips for a stress-free, fun HydroFest weekend:
Posted on Monday, 04 June 2018.
HydroFest is the perfect activity for families. With so much to see and do inside the event venue, including a kid’s inflatable area and static displays, combined with fast-paced racing on the water, there will be something fun for each member of the family.
To help plan your weekend and to insure you have as little stress as possible, we have shared a few tips you may want to consider:
Tip #1: Have a parking plan: There is limited parking within walking distance of Sunset Drive, where the event will take place. Several city parks and schools have been designated as offsite parking lots, with shuttle service. At just $5 a car, these parking lots provide easy access to and from the event. And, the money collected will go to support many local school booster clubs and nonprofits, so you are giving back to the community. Link to www.guntersvillelakehydrofest.com for a list of all offsite parking/shuttle service lots.
Tip #2: If you don’t need it, don’t bring it: For the safety and security of those attending HydroFest, all bags will be checked at the gates. Make sure before leaving home that you don’t have any of the items that are not allowed within the gates in your bags including pocket knives or air horns. Reminder, you can bring a soft shell cooler, but no hard shell coolers. A more detailed list of items that are not allowed at HydroFest can be found on the website.
Tip #3: Be prepared for summer weather: Don’t forget to pack sunscreen, insect repellant and even a poncho or umbrella. June in Alabama can be hot with an occasional afternoon thunderstorm. HydroFest is an outdoor event, so being prepared for a little rain and a lot of sun is a good plan.
Tip #4: Wear comfortable shoes: If you have any plans to visit the pits and see the boats up close and personal, you must have on closed-toed shoes. The event venue is over a mile in length with all sorts of activities spread throughout, so walking is guaranteed. Tennis shoes may be a better option than flip flops and sandals.
Tip #5: Chairs and blankets welcome: The event venue is shaded and offers plenty of great spots to sit and watch the races. Bring your blanket or folding chair and settle in for a day of fun. Tents are permitted only in designated areas and only if you pre-purchased a space. This is to insure that everyone has a good view of the water.
Tip #6: Download the free Guntersville Lake HydroFest App: Available in both Google Play and Apple Store, this free app will have valuable information for navigating HydroFest. Receive notifications on weather, parking and follow the stats of each driver competing during the three-day event all from the app. Also, included are interactive maps, sponsor links and what every parent needs to know: where is the restroom?
